They are engines, in culture and in creativity
and economic development to those cities.
- It is vital that we train the leaders
of arts organizations, both staff and board members,
to be able to identify new sources of revenue
and to ensure that they are making the decisions
that are going to help them prosper in the future.
- The American Cities Initiative is an important
initiative here at Bloomberg Philanthropies.
AIM falls in with it.
This program builds strengths in marketing,
communications, strategic planning, fundraising,
board development -- all the tools that they need
to really enhance their organizations.
- [Miguel] Boston Baroque is the oldest period
instrument orchestra in America.
- [Zenetta] Dallas Black Dance Theater is a 41 year old
contemporary modern dance organization.
- BAYCAT is a non-profit social enterprise.
We're here to end racism one story at a time.
Being invited to be part of the Bloomberg AIM cohort
was one of the most exciting opportunities.
I remember still getting the first phone call
and going "What! Are you kidding me!"
- The things that we got from AIM were numerous.
Before we participated in the AIM program
our social media was scattered across the organization.
And we have seen our media presence on
our social media activity increase tenfold.
- We launched Boston Baroque Radio as
an internet radio station a few years ago.
And part of what we worked with AIM on
was how do we expand that?
Within six month the listenership grew
to 200,000 listeners per week.
- What was brilliant about this one on one mentorship
was that we had these check-in's on a monthly basis
where we were allowed to really talk about our challenges.
- One of the things that we were able to do
was to be able to plan an endowment strategy
and be able to move forward with solicitations
that would help us with sustainability of the organization.
- One of the most important things that I learned
from the AIM program was this five year
programatic planning process.
Know what we're doing through 2023 and it allows us
the time to raise the money that we need
to get to the programs that we're doing.
- We saw board members begin to see, with clarity,
what their roles are and what it was
that they needed to do to grow the organization.
- The city focus of the AIM program is unique,
allowing us to work with so many different
organizations in one city, and to watch not just
an organization change but a whole arts ecology change.
And that is what makes the Bloomberg Philanthropies
approach to art funding so important.
- What lives behind after this grant
is really the confidence to know that
we can do much bigger and better things.
