As news filters through about the increasing amount of time Manchester United chiefs have been spending in Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman is said to be stepping his bid to buy the English Premier League giants in the hopes of becoming the new owner of the Red Devils by next season
The trillionaire is looking to take over the club with a AUD$6.8billion bid but the current owners, the Glazer family, are reportedly not looking to sell, yet the offer might be too good to refuse considering they bought the club for around £790million, according to the Sun
The valuation heavily depends on whether Manchester United qualifies for next season's Champions League, with formalities to be sorted after the qualification is confirmed
33-year-old Bin Salman reportedly wants to buy Manchester United to take on Man City, who is owned by Sheikh Mansour of the Abu Dhabi royal family
Over the past decade, Mansour has invested about £1.2billion into Manchester City which resulted in three Premier League titles, three League Cups and one FA Cup since the takeover
Man U and the Saudi Royal family have been tied to one another for a while, with Saudi Telecom being the longest running commercial partner with the club
The club also entered into a "strategic partnership" with the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia in 2017
That agreement involves United "lending its business and sporting expertise to clubs, sporting authorities and individuals in Saudi Arabia"
The Glazers have reportedly cashed in on selling several shares that hold no voting power over the years but the Americans retain complete control of the club and have always denied any talk of selling
According to the Independent's football writer Miguel Delaney, the return on the Glazer family's investment might be too fruitful
"The latest reports showed a record income of £590m from selling sponsorships.The six Glazer siblings and their investors have meanwhile been paid around £65m in dividends over the last three years," he wrote in October 2018
Avram Glazer has been seen meeting with Saudi officials in recent months, although talk of a sale in October was put on the back-burner after claims the Saudi Royal Family was involved in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi
The CIA concluded the Saudi operation was probably directed by bin Salman, but the White House wiggled its way around the findings amid strenuous denials by the Saudis, a key US ally
